Lessons learnt during prison visits.

I was fortunate enough to take part in a few prison visits where i picked up a few things along the way from interviewing inmates especially when it comes to how to conduct oneself in certain situations because i feel so many people are not aware that the law is so vast and it provides reprecautions even for the most minute of offenses.

These are some of the recurring stories i got from people i interviewed the things that stood out to me were;

1. Don't put your hands on someone no matter how angry you get because you might be the catalyst to their impending death and just because the person was dying already and you just hit them once as far as the law is concern you caused it. There is a principle we learnt at 400 level under the law of torts called the eggshell principle which applies to this. If you notice a situation is about to turn violent quietly walk away from it, there is a possibility that the reaction has nothing to do with you but you just happen to be an easy target to vent it on don't be provoked.

2. Ladies be careful with the kind of guys you hang out with, most of the women i interviewed their stories always start with 'My boyfriend' this & that. If you notice anything fishy about the kind of business your partner is involved in remove yourself from the situation, do not sign documents on his behalf or allow your account to be used to transfer huge sums of money without any information about where it's coming from. There is no harm in asking to be sure because you are looking out for yourself it's better to be safe than sorry.

3. I know the situation in the country is very dire and the temptation to make fast cash is on the minds of most youths but be careful on shady deals that seems too good to be true it usually is, i have seen so many young lads get caught up in such acts without realising what they are getting themselves into. They think this will be a fast way to earn a living without actually looking into it. Some of them are aware but they always think i will never be caught until they do.

These might not be much to go with but hopefully it can create a little awareness to individuals who come across similar situations.
